What are the socks made of?
What are the socks made of?
Lairos socks are made from a premium 90% cotton / 10% spandex blend- the ideal balance for softness, breathability, and all-day comfort under AFO braces.
The cotton keeps the skin cool and dry, while the flexible spandex gives the sock a gentle stretch that helps it stay in place without losing shape.
Each pair also includes minimal flat seams and a soft, reinforced cuff, so the fabric feels smooth against sensitive skin and doesn’t slide down under the brace.
We believe parents should know exactly what goes into the fabrics their children wear, which is why we break it all down in our blog post.
Are the socks itchy or tight?
Are the socks itchy or tight?
No. Lairos socks are designed specifically not to feel itchy, tight, or restrictive even for kids with sensory sensitivities.
They’re made from a soft, breathable 90% cotton / 10% spandex blend that creates a gentle, flexible fit. The socks stretch comfortably around the leg without squeezing, and the minimal flat seams prevent the rubbing or pressure points that often bother children wearing AFO braces.
The soft reinforced cuff at the top keeps the socks in place without digging into the skin, so they don’t slip under the brace and don’t create discomfort during long active days.
Will these socks stay up over the braces (AFOs)?
Will these socks stay up over the braces (AFOs)?
Yes. That’s exactly what they’re designed to do.
Lairos socks are true knee-high socks, cut high enough to stay securely above the brace throughout the entire day.
At the top, we use a soft reinforced cuff that grips gently without squeezing, so the socks don’t slide down, even with active movement, running, or extended wear with AFOs.
The cotton-rich knit provides structure, while the 10% spandex adds flexible stretch that prevents sagging.
Because the socks have minimal flat seams, they don’t bunch, wrinkle, or fold underneath the brace, which means they stay smooth and firmly in place.
In short:
No slipping. No sagging. No sliding under the brace- just a comfortable, stay-up fit from morning to bedtime.
Do you offer different sizes?
Do you offer different sizes?
Yes. Lairos socks are currently available in one flexible size for children: US 12C–3Y (EU 30–35), which typically fits ages 6–12.
Our socks are designed with an Elastic Fit Range meaning the cotton-rich knit and 10% spandex allow the sock to stretch comfortably across a wide range of foot lengths without feeling loose or tight.
This same elasticity also lets your child choose how high to pull the sock (right above the brace or all the way to the knee), while still allowing the fabric to return to shape after wear.
This design makes the socks easy to fit, easy to use, and ideal for kids in the AFO age range whose feet grow quickly but still need a stable, stay-up knee-high sock.
Coming soon:
Please note: For children with very slim legs or who fall at the lower end of the size range, the fit may feel looser. We’re actively addressing this with upcoming toddler sizes.
Also, we’re expanding into teen and adult sizes with the same premium materials, prints, and comfort features.
What are the exact measurements of the socks?
What are the exact measurements of the socks?
For our current Kids size (US 11–3Y / EU 28–35), the socks are designed with a high-stretch cotton/spandex blend to adapt to a wide range of leg shapes.
If you are measuring to compare them to your current socks, here are the dimensions when the sock is unworn and flat:
- Leg Length (Heel to Cuff): ~11.8 inches (30 cm)
- Foot Length (Heel to Toe): ~7.5 inches (19 cm)
Note: Don’t worry if they look smaller than expected when you take them out of the box!
The unique elasticity of our knit allows them to stretch comfortably to a true knee-high length, ensuring they stay securely over the AFO brace without sliding down.
What is the thickness of the socks? Are they thin or thick?
What is the thickness of the socks? Are they thin or thick?
Lairos socks are designed with a light-to-medium thickness.
They’re soft and protective enough to create a comfortable barrier between the skin and the brace, but not so thick that they cause overheating, sweating, or a tight fit inside the AFO.
This balanced thickness helps reduce friction and irritation while keeping the foot cool, supported, and comfortable throughout the day.
In short:
• Thickness: Light-medium
• Purpose: Protection without bulk
Do your socks have built-in heels?
Do your socks have built-in heels?
Yes. All Lairos socks include a defined anatomical heel pocket.
We designed a true heel shape so the sock anchors securely to the foot and stays in place throughout the day.
This reduces twisting, sliding, or bunching inside the AFO, keeping the fabric smooth against the skin and helping protect sensitive areas from friction or irritation.
My child has wider calves. What is the maximum cuff stretch?
My child has wider calves. What is the maximum cuff stretch?
For our current Kids size (US 11–3Y / EU 28–35), the socks are designed with a flexible 10% spandex blend that allows the top cuff to stretch significantly.
- Comfortable Fit: We recommend these socks for a calf circumference of up to 12.5 inches (32 cm) for a secure fit that doesn't dig in.
- Max Stretch: While the fabric can physically stretch further (up to 15 inches / 39 cm), it may feel too tight or restrictive beyond the recommended range.
If you are unsure, we recommend measuring your child's calf at the widest point before ordering.
Note: Measurements for our upcoming Teen & Adult sizes will differ.
How do Lairos socks fit inside shoes with AFOs?
How do Lairos socks fit inside shoes with AFOs?
Lairos socks are intentionally designed to fit comfortably inside both the AFO brace and the shoe without adding bulk or creating pressure points.
The cotton-rich knit keeps the fabric soft and breathable, while the 10% spandex gives the sock enough flexibility to stretch smoothly around the foot and brace without wrinkling or bunching.
Because the socks are thin-to-medium in profile and made with minimal flat seams, they sit evenly under the AFO and leave space for most standard school shoes.
This prevents the common issues parents face with regular socks: tight shoes, rubbing, or the sock folding under the brace.
The result is a fit that feels natural, secure, and comfortable, whether your child is walking, running, or wearing their braces for long hours.
Do kids who wear AFO braces need special socks?
Do kids who wear AFO braces need special socks?
Yes. Kids with AFO braces need socks designed to reduce friction and protect sensitive skin.
Regular socks often slide down, wrinkle inside the brace, or create pressure points.
It’s also challenging to find knee-high socks in true kids’ sizes that:
• stay up and don’t slide under the brace
• fit comfortably without squeezing
• have no internal thick seams
• and especially maintain a smooth feel even with printed designs, not just plain socks.
Lairos socks address all of these challenges.
They’re made with minimal flat seams, a soft reinforced cuff that stays up without pressure, and a cotton-rich breathable knit.
They stay in place under the brace, protect the skin, and keep kids comfortable throughout the day.
What makes AFO socks different from regular socks?
What makes AFO socks different from regular socks?
Socks for AFO braces need to solve problems that regular socks simply aren’t built for.
Inside a brace, even small wrinkles or thick seams can create pressure points, rubbing, or skin irritation.
AFO-friendly socks like Lairos are designed with:
• Minimal flat seams instead of bulky interior stitching
• A reinforced knee-high cuff that stays up without sliding under the brace
• A thin-to-medium profile that fits comfortably inside AFOs and regular school shoes
• Breathable, cotton-rich fabric to reuce moisture and heat
• Consistent stretch from spandex that helps the sock keep its shape throughout the day
Regular socks often bunch, shift, or compress the foot unevenly while AFO-specific socks keep the leg protected and stable inside the brace.
Why are minimal flat seams so important for kids who wear AFO braces?
Why are minimal flat seams so important for kids who wear AFO braces?
When a child wears AFO braces, even a small ridge inside the sock can become a pressure point.
Because the brace holds the foot and ankle firmly in place for many hours, any raised seam is pressed directly onto the skin — often causing rubbing, red marks, or discomfort that builds up throughout the day.
Minimal flat seams solve this problem by removing bulk across the toes and creating a smooth, low-profile surface.
For many kids with sensory sensitivities or heightened tactile awareness, this makes a dramatic difference: the sock feels softer, less distracting, and far more comfortable inside the brace.
Lairos socks use a carefully engineered flat seam that stays gentle against the skin while maintaining durability, so kids can wear their braces confidently without feeling that “something is poking” at their toes.
How do knee-high socks help with AFO braces?
How do knee-high socks help with AFO braces?
Knee-high socks are essential when wearing AFO braces because they create a full, smooth barrier between the brace and the skin.
Shorter socks often slide down, exposing parts of the leg to the brace’s straps or edges which can quickly lead to rubbing, pressure, or irritation.
Lairos socks are designed to stay securely above the brace with a soft reinforced cuff that grips gently without squeezing.
The cotton-rich knit keeps the leg covered throughout the day, helps prevent direct contact with hard brace surfaces, and ensures the sock doesn’t bunch, wrinkle, or slip underneath the AFO, one of the most common issues parents report with regular socks.
The result is a stable, protective layer that keeps the skin comfortable and allows the brace to function properly without causing friction or hot spots.
Are Lairos socks suitable for children who wear prosthetics or devices other than AFOs?
Are Lairos socks suitable for children who wear prosthetics or devices other than AFOs?
Lairos socks were specifically designed for children who wear AFO braces, with a focus on a smooth interior, minimal seams, and soft, breathable materials to help reduce friction inside the brace.
We have not medically tested or certified our socks for use with prosthetics or other assistive devices, and we don’t want to over-promise compatibility. However, some families exploring options for different devices look for similar qualities, such as a smooth inner surface and gentle, skin-friendly fabrics.
Because prosthetic systems, liners, and individual needs can vary widely, the best way to know if our socks are suitable is often to try one pair and see how it feels for your child.
What’s the best material blend for AFO socks?
What’s the best material blend for AFO socks?
AFO socks need to balance softness, breathability, and just the right amount of stretch especially because the sock sits under a brace for many hours.
A cotton-rich fabric is the best starting point: it keeps the skin cool, reduces moisture, and feels gentle for kids who experience increased skin sensitivity or sensory discomfort.
A small percentage of spandex helps the sock keep its shape, hug the leg evenly, and stay smooth under the brace without adding pressure.
Lairos socks use a 90% cotton / 10% spandex blend a combination that protects the skin, prevents bunching, and stays comfortable inside most school shoes and AFOs throughout the day.
Can the socks be worn without braces?
Can the socks be worn without braces?
Yes. Lairos socks are designed for everyday comfort with or without AFO braces.
Their cotton-rich, breathable knit and minimal flat seams make them soft and comfortable even for kids with sensitive skin or sensory challenges.
The reinforced yet gentle cuff keeps the socks in place during play, school, or sports, and the knee-high length gives a secure, cozy fit even when no brace is worn.
We’re confident your children will choose Lairos as their go-to daily socks because they’re soft, stay up, and come in designs kids genuinely love, not only for AFO use.
Are Lairos socks sensory-friendly?
Are Lairos socks sensory-friendly?
Yes. Lairos socks are designed to feel soft, smooth, and consistent on the skin a key need for many children with sensory sensitivities or heightened tactile awareness.
The cotton-rich knit provides a gentle, breathable texture, while the minimal flat seams prevent the raised edges that often trigger discomfort, pressure, or “itchy spots.”
The soft reinforced cuff holds the socks in place without squeezing, so children don’t feel sudden tightness or shifting fabric during the day.
This combination creates a stable, predictable feel both with and without AFO braces.
Do the socks provide compression or add extra pressure to the leg?
Do the socks provide compression or add extra pressure to the leg?
No. Lairos socks do not provide compression and do not add extra pressure.
Because AFO braces already apply structured pressure to the leg, adding compression is not recommended and may lead to discomfort or restricted circulation.
Our socks are intentionally non-compression so they stay gentle on the skin, sit smoothly under the brace, and avoid creating any additional tightness.
In short:
• Compression: None
• Why: Safe, comfortable wear under AFOs without added pressure
Can AFO socks help reduce friction or discomfort under the brace?
Can AFO socks help reduce friction or discomfort under the brace?
AFO braces can sometimes cause rubbing, pressure points, or general discomfort especially when socks slide down, wrinkle, or trap moisture.
While no sock can guarantee the prevention of skin irritation, the right materials and construction can significantly reduce the factors that contribute to it.
Lairos socks are designed to support healthier, more comfortable wear by using:
• minimal flat seams that avoid creating pressure ridges
• a cotton-rich, breathable knit that helps reduce heat and moisture buildup
• a soft reinforced cuff that keeps the sock from slipping under the brace
• gentle stretch that keeps the fabric smooth against the skin instead of bunching
These features help create a smoother, more stable layer between the brace and the skin, which can reduce friction and improve day-to-day comfort, especially during long hours of brace use.
Do Lairos socks help with sweating or odor inside AFO braces?
Do Lairos socks help with sweating or odor inside AFO braces?
Sweaty feet and odor are very common challenges for kids who wear AFO braces, especially after long days of walking and activity.
Lairos socks are made with a high percentage of breathable cotton and a smooth interior with minimal seams and no loose internal threads. This helps reduce friction and skin irritation when the sock becomes damp, which many families find more comfortable inside braces compared to fully synthetic socks.
That said, every child’s body, skin sensitivity, and brace setup are different. While our socks are designed to support comfort and skin protection, they are not a medical treatment for sweating or odor.
Some families find it helpful to combine breathable socks with additional strategies, such as changing socks mid-day or using a child-safe foot powder.
Do they last after many washes?
Do they last after many washes?
Yes. Lairos socks are built to last even with frequent washing.
Our 90% cotton / 10% spandex blend keeps the socks soft, breathable, and comfortably stretchy over time, without sagging or losing their shape.
Our prints are created using high-quality sublimation techniques, which are known for holding color well and keeping designs clear and smooth. With proper care, the socks maintain their vibrancy and comfort through many wash cycles without the peeling or stiffness that can happen with traditional printed socks.
Do the designs fade or peel?
Do the designs fade or peel?
Our designs are created using high-quality sublimation printing, a method known for producing smooth, durable prints that hold color well over time. Because the ink bonds into the fibers rather than sitting on top of the fabric, the designs remain clear and flexible, even with frequent washing.
While natural wear is always possible with any printed textile, sublimation printing is far less prone to peeling or cracking compared to traditional surface prints.
Combined with our 90% cotton / 10% spandex blend, the socks retain their stretch and structure so the prints stay looking great and feeling smooth through regular use and proper care.
How do I wash and care for Lairos socks?
How do I wash and care for Lairos socks?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and tumble dry low.
Avoid bleach and fabric softeners, as they can break down elastic fibers and affect the sock’s stretch and feel.
Sublimation prints hold color well, but proper care helps maintain vibrancy and prevent premature wear. With these simple steps, the socks stay soft, smooth, and comfortable for long-term everyday use.
Are Lairos socks safe for kids with sensitive skin?
Are Lairos socks safe for kids with sensitive skin?
Yes. Lairos AFO socks are certified under OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 (Class I), the highest level of safety testing for babies and children.
This means our fabrics are free from more than 100 harmful substances and proven gentle on sensitive skin.
Have your products been tested for lead or other restricted materials?

Are your socks latex-free?
Are your socks latex-free?
Our socks are crafted from a blend of 90% Cotton and 10% Spandex. Since Spandex is a synthetic fiber, the product itself does not contain natural rubber latex.
However, transparency is very important to us: while we do not use rubber in our designs, our manufacturing facility does handle rubber yarns for other production lines. Because of this, we cannot guarantee a completely 100% latex-free factory environment regarding potential trace particles. If you or your child has a severe allergy, we recommend proceeding with caution.
Why does all of this matter to you as a brand?

We believe that when parents feel confident about what touches their child’s skin from the fabric to the dyes to the packaging children feel that confidence too.

How can socks help my child feel more confident
How can socks help my child feel more confident
Confidence often grows from comfort, routine, and small moments of feeling “like myself.”
For many children who wear braces, discomfort, slipping socks, or constant adjustments can make them feel different or self-conscious.
Lairos socks don’t create confidence by themselves but we do believe they support it by reducing many of those daily friction points: soft materials that don’t irritate, minimal flat seams that don’t rub, and designs that feel fun and expressive rather than medical.
When a child feels physically at ease and emotionally “included,” it becomes easier to move through their day with a bit more confidence one small moment at a time.
Will these feel more comfortable for my child when wearing braces?
Will these feel more comfortable for my child when wearing braces?
Children who wear braces often experience sensitivity from seams, slipping socks, or fabrics that don’t breathe well. Lairos socks are designed to reduce these discomforts: the cotton-rich knit feels soft and breathable, the minimal flat seams help prevent irritation, and the reinforced cuff keeps the sock in place without squeezing.
These features create a smoother, more comfortable experience that can make everyday wear feel easier.
If mornings tend to be challenging, giving your child a choice can make a real difference but it’s most effective when the choice is guided.
Instead of offering all 10 pairs at once (which can overwhelm younger kids), place 2–3 designs in front of them and let them decide. This creates structure and control at the same time, which often reduces resistance and helps the day start more calmly.
Over time, you’ll naturally notice the patterns which designs they choose most, which colors make them smile and you can lean into those preferences when choosing future pairs.
I’m worried about my child’s confidence. Can socks really change that?
I’m worried about my child’s confidence. Can socks really change that?
Confidence doesn’t come from a single product it builds slowly through repeated experiences of comfort, ease, and feeling “part of things”.
For kids who wear braces, even something small like avoiding irritation or keeping socks from slipping can reduce stress and boost daily comfort.
Lairos socks are not a medical solution, but they can remove some discomforts that often get in the way of confidence:
soft fabrics, minimal flat seams that don’t rub, gentle cuffs that don’t squeeze, and designs that feel fun rather than clinical.
These small moments add up and often help children feel more grounded, included, and at ease in their bodies.

What if my child refuses to even try them?
What if my child refuses to even try them?
It’s a very common concern. Sometimes the key is lowering the pressure and turning the moment into play.
You can invite your child to test the sock on their hand first, or even on a favorite stuffed animal.
It helps them feel the softness without the pressure of wearing it immediately.
Some parents also offer a small choice:
“Do you want to try the blue one or the space one?”
Choices help children feel more in control especially when braces reduce how many decisions they get to make.
Small, playful steps often open the door to trying the socks on their feet when they’re ready.
